Bertha is actively being torn apart by wind shear, a hallmark of El Niño's impact on Atlantic hurricane season. But don't thank El Niño just yet.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said on Monday (local time) that Tropical Storm Bertha formed over the Gulf of Mexico, south of the Florida Panhandle, in the evening.
